Essay on Organic versus Non-Organic Food and Food Production

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between organic and non organic food? Some may say there aren’t any differences in the food itself, but the real difference lies in the means of producing the food. The controversy here is the environmental effects of different farming methods. Some believe that organic farming methods are better than conventional farming methods and some believe the opposite. There are many factors to determine which method is better but we are here to investigate the environmental aspect of the question. In short organic farming is a method of farming where the techniques used are less damaging to the environment by not using synthetic chemical fertilizers and herbicides and limiting the amount of†¦show more content†¦Organic farming has a more environmentally friendly approach and again the motive is money but the effects aren’t overlooked due to profits as they are in conventional farming. â€Å"The difference that sets o rganic farmers apart from conventional farmers is a holistic approach to the land and animals that is founded, primarily, on long term, natural processes. This approach avoids the use of synthetic chemicals, is more environmentally friendly, protects animals from in humane treatment, and promotes biodiversity – the wide variety of plant and animal species and ecosystems typically found in nature† (Miller 15). It sees farmers as stewards of the land, harvesting its fruits while they care of it so that they can leave it to future generations in a condition as good as, or better than, it was when they started farming† (Singer Par 2). The mindset of the two types of farming is nowhere near the same and probably never will be unless a major environmental disaster occurs and causes people to change the way they think.
